Shambhala 2008

After sleeping all of Monday I can now finally write about Shambhala this past weekend. I only ended up getting there on Saturday and spent Saturday and Sunday up there driving back Monday morning after getting 3 hours of sleep. This was my second time at Shambhala so I knew more of what to expect and the event didn’t disappoint with strange weather and even stranger people. 10 000 people flood into Salmo for this music festival and every single person I met all raved about how awesome Shambhala is. If you haven’t been make sure you make it for the 2009 show.

Batman

I got a chance to go see the new Batman movie and I must say it was awesome. I was listening to a podcast from the guys over at fx-guide.com on how awesome the IMAX version of the film is and tried to find an IMAX close by that was showing it however I had no luck. I had to settle for viewing it at a theatre in Kelowna tucked away into a corner seat front row as even after the film was out for 2 weeks and on a Wednesday night the place was packed. After 2.5 hours of contorting my neck I still came away blown away how awesome the movie was and highly recommend going to see it.

July 1st Update

Today is July 1st and again it’s been a bit more then a month since I updated the blog. I just got back from a long weekend of house boating on the Shuswap Lake and have decided to spend my Canada Day taking it easy and trying to catch up on some things that haven’t been done because I’ve been busy with work. So updating the blog a bit and writing some long forgotten e-mails is on my list.

June was a nice month for photos for me. I uploaded 5 more shots to my flickr page so take a look. The most recent one was from my trip house boating. I missed some spectacular shots of a lightning storm that ignited a few fires. Getting the timing write when mother nature has it’s own schedule is pretty tough.

Dirt Tours

On Friday Pat from Dirt Tours had a free day of shuttling up Kokanne running trails such as Hitman and Newt Sac. I was lucky enough to be on for every drop and it made for about 12000ft of vertical. Then yesterday I got in a awesome ride down Paper bag making for 2 very awesome days of biking. Just wanted to give a big shout out to Pat for spending his Friday on a long weekend shuttling 18 people asking nothing in return. If you are looking to come ride in Nelson give Pat a call and he will show you the goods.

Front Page Material

My Dominance War 3 entry, Bodum O’Darby made it to the front page on the new Softimage community forums. It is pretty neat to make the front page and gain some more exposure. In other news the gallery section is almost completed with plans to have a fully update resume, and about me section coming this week for my upcoming job search.

Update Wagon, YeeHaw!

So to get back on the update wagon I updated what I have been reading and playing sidebars. First I read through Into the Wild and then watched the movie. Yes I’m one of those people who always thinks the book is better than the movie and it held true here. The movie was still great and the actor who played the old man did a great job. I also wanted to mention Lance Armstrong book that I had actually read last year but thought it deserved a recommendation. Being heavily into cycling its hard not to miss this guy and what he has done for the sport. I’m still one of the pessimists who thinks he did use drugs to achieve his level of athleticism. Lance came in when the sport needed a clean cut American poster boy to help the sport return to glory. I’m sure he didn’t not dope while on tour when you get tested or leading up to it. But the years he wasn’t a professional cyclist what was to stop him?

1 Month Without a Post

Well didn’t mean to take so long to write here just been busy that is all. For the last 2 weeks I was finishing up my Dominance War entry. Last week I only got a total of 20 hours of sleep for the whole week while I burned the midnight oil to get my entry in on time. I’ll write another post later on about the whole ordeal.

Today I updated the backend of the site to Wordpress 2.5 and mainly wanted to write a post to check out the new admin features and make sure I didn’t break anything on the site. If you find something that is broken contact me about it.

Bleeding Shimano Disk Brakes

Today we are going to take a look at bringing some life back into your Shimano disk brakes. Chances are your bike has been sitting in the garage over the winter neglected and waiting for a spring tune up. Now is the perfect time to break out your toolbox and start on some maintenance. It is recommended you bleed your brakes at least once a year to flush out any foreign materials that might have worked themselves into the system. Maybe some air is trapped in the lines causing your brakes to feeling spongy. A proper bleed will having them feeling solid again.

With this guide, you’ll learn to bleed your brakes and clean up your brake pads and rotor to remove any contaminates that might have accumulated from oil/brake fluid, road grime, or glazing. After this your brakes will feel much better and will be ready for some serious vertical!

Orange Box Modding

Not much new to report in my life but I wanted to write about MINERVA: Metastasis. I’ve been trying out some mods since I bought the Orange Box and so far Minerva is by far the best. Offering the same style of gameplay and feel that Half Life 2 does, it feels like a side story with HL2. You can download it here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/5803/minerva

Another mod of note is ZombiePanic: Source. Filling the void of a zombie shooter until Left 4 Dead comes out, it is very funny and the people I have meet playing it are great. Everyone is into the zombie feel, and the slow speech of zombies looking for braiiiiins… over voice chat from people is great. Gameplay I feel needs some tweaking to balance out the survivors and the zombies and some maps are pretty poor, but it is a nice break from TF2.
