Update Wagon, YeeHaw!

So to get back on the update wagon I updated what I have been reading and playing sidebars. First I read through Into the Wild and then watched the movie. Yes I’m one of those people who always thinks the book is better than the movie and it held true here. The movie was still great and the actor who played the old man did a great job. I also wanted to mention Lance Armstrong book that I had actually read last year but thought it deserved a recommendation. Being heavily into cycling its hard not to miss this guy and what he has done for the sport. I’m still one of the pessimists who thinks he did use drugs to achieve his level of athleticism. Lance came in when the sport needed a clean cut American poster boy to help the sport return to glory. I’m sure he didn’t not dope while on tour when you get tested or leading up to it. But the years he wasn’t a professional cyclist what was to stop him?

As for what I have been playing, I finally took Team Fortress 2 off the list even though I am still playing it here and there and am looking forward to the new patch coming next week. Instead I have added Assassin’s Creed and Eve Online. I actually just started Assassin’s Creed last night and started off really disappointed. The game starts with a sci-fi futuristic UI and feel. I thought this game was supposed to be set during the crusade? What is this whole sci-fi techy stuff about? Playing the game for a bit it starts to explain why you are in the future and what they are calling story starts to unfold. If it wasn’t for the gorgeous graphics I probably would have uninstalled the game already. I’ll play for a bit longer to check out what the Ubisoft artists have created but so far I’m pretty disappointed after all the hype this game received.

Next up was Eve Online which I played back in ’06 for a bit and wanted to give a go again to see what has changed in the game. So I started up a 14 day free trial and joined a pirate corp and went off to blow stuff up. Aside from the nice new graphics the game is pretty much the same. I think CCP did a horrible job on the tutorial and explaining to new players how the game actually works. If it wasn’t for the efforts put in by the community the game would be way too complicated to play. The game is huge and not something you can learn in 30 minutes, but those first 30 minutes are what you need to hook new players on your game. What CCP did do right is create the most intense pvp I have seen. I have never experienced the heart pounding action in a pvp battle as I have in EVE. The death penalty is so high and so many variables to every battle, it is always fun. I’ll probably buy a game time code and check it out for another month until the next expansion pack that promises a very cool feature factional warfare.

Also I wrote up the backend for the gallery and will be updating the site with gallery updates and what not for my job push coming up in the next weeks.
